The idea of creating a “personal brand” may be antithetical to how you live your life, but trust me when I say that you need to think about it. Having a brand doesn’t mean you need to stand in the middle of a room yelling “look at me!!!!!” It doesn’t mean you need to shamelessly promote yourself at all opportunities, it doesn’t mean you need to start embracing all of the social media trends and film dozens of reels.
It means you need to tell a story about yourself.
Besides being a writer, you’re also a consumer of content and goods and if you stop to think about why you bought something for the first time, I guarantee it’s because there was a good story behind it. That’s the reason why marketing exists as an industry, people love a good story. And if you’ve written a good story, people will love it.
