Working with Bookstagram
The better you understand the social media landscape, the easier it is to find your readers.
Let’s start with the basics: what is Bookstagram? It’s a tag with over 90 million posts on Instagram and it’s what people call the part of the platform that’s dedicated to pretty piles of books, book review posts, and all book-related content. Bookstagrammers are people who have a social media account dedicated to books.
Many of the bookstagrammers I’ve met started their accounts during COVID. They were avid readers and all of a sudden they found their friends asking them for book recommendations during a period of time where everyone had extra hours for things like reading, so they started what was meant to be a casual recommendation account for their friends. As we know, reading made a comeback during the pandemic and the bookstagrammers with unique voices and compelling reviews quickly became influencers.
Everyone defines “influencer” differently and everyone has their own opinion on how to partner with them. I’ve worked with countless influencers across many verticals (beauty, fashion, wellness, food, wine, and of course books) and the following is my perspective on how to best collaborate with bookstagrammers and weave social media into your book marketing strategy.
