I read the same article, Amy, and realized how my many moves since leaving Charlotte in 1965 have helped me shape my life. When I return to Charlotte every few years for a 1961 class reunion, I'm struck by the people who never had these experiences and how provincial their conversation is. Social life revolves around the country club and its activities. Same club, same activities, same people.
Travel is a step in the right direction, but staying in 5-star hotels and taking pricey group tours is not nearly as broadening as settling down in one location and getting to know its rhythm and the places the neighbors like to go for social interaction.
Happy travels, and I hope to read many great posts from your trips.
saving allll of these!
